Are You - Home page introduction

We are a family run business and launched WhatUGotCooking in 2008. I found myself struggling to find the time and the inspiration to serve anything beyond ‘edible’ at tea time.
The problem was that I was unfamiliar with cooking, disorganised about shopping and dreaded the everyday responsibility of having to serve up something that everyone would eat (or at least try). I had great intentions at the supermarket but then would end up throwing away what had been perfectly good food because I hadn’t got round to cooking it. I wanted the family to eat a wider variety of food, waste less of it and rely less on highly processed foods. However I knew that I was never going to be a cordon bleu cook, that I didn’t want to devote much of my precious time to this and that I needed something flexible, quick and easy to help me.
This is where my wonderful husband stepped into the process. I told him that what I really wanted was someone else to do all the thinking and to just tell me what to buy and how to cook it but to take into account what we liked as a family. He suggested that we build something to automate it all. So I told him all the problems and he had to come up with the solutions.
Between us we came up with a really useful tool. We now as a family...
• Can simply print off a shopping list and whiz around the shop with it
• Can spend less time negotiating about food and more time eating it
• Can still have delivered pizzas every other Friday or plan to go out to eat
• All know ‘what’s for tea’
• Share the cooking since everyone knows what it is, all ingredients available and recipe to follow
As a side effect I found that we ate a wider range of fresh home made food and started enjoying our food more. I started to mention it to family and friends and was amazed that people jumped at the chance to use it and became firm fans. And so, WhatUGotCooking.com was born. I hope that you find the service we offer as useful as we have.
We are constantly looking at ways to improve so would love to hear any comments or suggestions you may have.
