This Month

November: from the Latin ‘novem’ meaning 9, as it used to be theFireworks 9th month in the Roman calendar. Much awaited is Bonfire night when the UK commemorate the 1605 Gunpowder Plot with bonfires and fireworks and of course delicious parkin. Did you know? Until 1859 it was compulsory, by Royal Decree, to celebrate!

Why not make some Parkin?

2008 The Year of Reading

Did you know that 2008 is the Year of Reading? We have been taking the opportunity to catch up on reading. Dominic has introduced me to the joys of Terry Pratchetts Discworld series. Jonny Ketchup on your cornflakeshas introduced his little brother Daniel (3) to an old favourite, Nick Sharrats laugh out loud ‘Ketchup on your cornflakes’. I have just read ‘The boy in the striped pyjamas’, a riveting tear jerker that I can’t recommend highly enough.

Our favourite meals from last month were....

Pasta Gratin a deliciously creamy, indulgent supper

Coconut and mango rice pudding a lovely sweet and fruity change on a traditional pudd.
